Prépas Scientifiques : MPSI/PCSI/ MPII
MPSI/PCSI/MP2I Three programs are offered in the first year of preparatory classes for students with a scientific background. The programs are similar at first because all students eventually enter the same schools. However, each program has its own distinct features based on a unique curriculum with a significant focus on mathematics, physics, chemistry, or engineering sciences. Choose the program that best suits your aspirations and in which you will be happiest to study.
MPSI:
MPSI is intended for students with a scientific background, regardless of their specialization, who are ready for a high dose of mathematics. With 24 hours per week, mathematics and physics are the two main disciplines of the MPSI preparatory class. In Mathematics and Computer Sciences : The goal is to acquire a scientific approach and tools that are useful in other disciplines. The program includes topics such as logic, reasoning, calculation techniques, linear algebra, and discrete probabilities. In computer sciences, students learn a programming language, basic database concepts, digital engineering, and simulation, among others. In Physics: Topics covered include signals, mechanics, thermodynamics, magnetic fields, electricity, electronics, and quantum physics. In Chemistry: The focus is on the states and transformations of matter and solutions, with real-world examples in daily life, laboratory, or the industrial world. In Engineering Science: In this field, students work on various mechatronic systems (wind turbines, drones, prosthetics, etc.) with the aim of improving their performance. TIPE (Personal Supervised Initiative Work): These are subjects in the curriculum, while French, philosophy, modern languages, and physical education also complete the program.
PCSI:
PCSI is intended for students with a scientific background, regardless of their specialization, who are interested in an approach to fundamental sciences based on experimentation and modeling. This program is for those who want to understand the workings of various objects and have a penchant for chemistry. In Mathematics and Computer Science: The majority of the program is dedicated to analysis, sequences, functions, linear algebra, vector spaces, linear applications, and probabilities. In Physics: The focus is on geometric optics, wave and point mechanics, electrodynamics, thermodynamics, and electromagnetism. Engineering Science: Students learn to analyze and model systems that combine various technologies, primarily based on mechanics and automotive engineering. TIPE (Personal Supervised Initiative Work): Computer science, French, philosophy, modern languages, and physical education are also part of the curriculum.
MP2I:
The MP2I program (Mathematics-Physics and Computer Science) is designed for students interested in mathematics, physics, and computer science. This program is tailored to prepare students for entrance exams at top engineering schools. It places particular emphasis on applied mathematics, theoretical physics, and computer sciences. Over the course of two years in the MP2I program, students take in-depth courses in these three disciplines:
Applied mathematics, including topics such as numerical analysis, optimization, differential equations, and mathematical modeling.
Theoretical physics covers areas such as quantum mechanics, electromagnetism, thermodynamics, and particle physics.
Computer science includes programming basics, algorithms, data structures, and databases. The objective of the MP2I program is to educate students capable of understanding and mastering the fundamental concepts of mathematics, physics, and computer science while developing their analytical and critical thinking skills.
